2 days ago i opened windows update and there were some optional updates, one of which was the realtek one. I installed the updates i wanted and then restarted, and now i have no sound :( . I've tried uninstalling, original drivers, the new driver, pretty much everything i think. Realtek starts and device manager says its working, but it doesn't detect my speakers, which worked fine before the failed update. Please help; i cant game with no sound :(

Click on the start orb then control panel then device manager.
Now click on the sound, video and game controllers.
Now double click on the sound card.
click on the driver tab.
If roll back driver is highlighted then click on that.

Otherwise it will be a case of downloading the installation package from the sound card manufactuer and reinstalling.

Just a hunch but try unplugging your jack and re-inserting it back in, the jack detection might need a bit of a kick :-)

I already tried the original driver, and that didn't work.

ok, i've got quite a few errors, but none of them seem to be sound..

i do have more info on the problem; realtek is working, it just wont make the speakers go. It detects when i plugged in a pair of headphones, but nothing actually happens to the sound or on the realtek interface, apart from the jack now being shaded in.

Hi,

What diagnostics have you carried out on the sound system in control panel or the task bar icon?

Hi,

Have you looked at the configuration for the sound system & clicked on each speaker to hear sound (To test each speaker).

This is what I see when on the realtek sound configuration screen. Do you see the same or something similar?

Hi,

I have noticed that you do not have a setup selected, why is this? Stereo, 2.1, 5.1 or even 7.1 as I have.

Also, just to add to what lottiemansion has stated, you won't get any sound through your speakers as there is no audio device installed, I see a red X next to your audio device in the notification area...

Even if i choose one, the picture still wont change, realtek just puts it back to blank the next time i open the console.

you won't get any sound through your speakers as there is no audio device installed, I see a red X next to your audio device in the notification area...

How to fix please?
