built-in mic not working

I know this question has been answered a million times already but none of them have resolved my issue.

I have a hp pavilion dv9000 series and a few weeks back any program that could use the mic would freeze my system. I updated the drivers and everything and now the system doesn't freeze but the mic still doesn't work.

Is there anything else I can do?

Since you did not mentioned what you had tried, have you tried the following ?

Right click at the Volumn icon in your system tray > click Playbck tab > click the Speakers icon that has a green checkmark underneath > click Properties > click Levels > see if the slider is way down to the left > if yes, slide it up.

Do the same on Recording tab.

I've had and ran malewarebytes on a regular basis and negative. The freezing issue start a could weeks ago but the actual problem of the mic not functioning I'm not sure when as I haven't used the mic in a good minute. And when the freezing was happening I did restore the system a couple of times.

I've also gone into the system tray and checked the levels once I resolved the freezing issue because even going in there would lock it up.

I've checked the levels on all the programs that use the mic and they're all good.

When I try using the mic it doesn't read my voice or any noise other than if i bang or tap on my laptop and that I believe is it just the mic vibrating an dreading that.

I forgot to mention that a microphone doesn't even show up when I'm in the volume mixer and have a program open that uses the mic.

Sorry, forgot to mention I've uninstalled and installed too. Wouldn't actually update unless I did that.

Follow the instructions in the article that I posted, that should help.

Followed the instructions and now the driver is fully updated to the 2011. Unfortunately It still won't work. Also in the instructions:

"After this go to control panel > sound and audio device settings. Check whether the microphone is detected by Vista or not. If not, check whether you have selected the frontal microphone or rear, as vista recognizes them separately unlike windows Xp. Correct the configuration of front/rear mic if needed"

I can not find any option that allows me to select frontal or rear mic. Maybe this could be the key...

Dont go to the device manager to update, do it from the website; ie Realtek etc.

I ran microsoft fix-it and the result is that the mic is not connected. It appears that it's only looking at plug-in mic and not the built-in.

In 'control panel' under 'sound' is there a microphone listed there. If so be sure to enable the microphone. Or open device manager and if a microphone is listed in Device Manager be sure the driver is installed and the hardware is enabled.

Yes, the mic has always been available and enabled but it just won't work. At this point I'm going to have to admit it's a hardware issue which I was hoping it wasn't.

If you followed all the steps, hardware is very likely.
