My Sound Icon Has a Red Line Through It

Hi,

I'm using my desktop and all of a sudden I can't hear a video. Then I notice the sound icon has a read line through it. I open it up and remove the 'mute' line, but a little later it does it again. It just seems to happen. I don't do it. Any thoughts?

Thanks.

Go to search by the start button
Type device manager
In device manger look for the sound driver, update. If any small yellow markers update those too.

Thanks.

I went to Device Manager & then to Sound, Video & Game Controllers (that's the only thing I saw with the word Sound in it). I didn't see any thing with small yellow markers but I did update the 2 drivers there. However, both said the most updated driver was already installed.

I then went to the Gateway home page to see if there were any new drivers that might deal w/audio issues. There were 2 of them but when I tried to save them my harddrive had them already.

How about you just unmute it.

That's usually what te red line through the taskbar icon means

Thanks for the suggestions. I will try uninstalling the sound drivers & then reinstalling the audio drivers from the Gateway page.

I could just 'unmute' it each time, but it happens constantly without warning or cause.

Didn't really help so I did a Sytem Restore. We'll see if that takes.

I'll let you know. Thanks.

Uninstalling & reinstalling drivers didn't work.

Neither did System Restore.

It keeps muting unexpectedly.

Any other thoughts?

Thanks.
