Vista happy but still no audio out

Odd one this.

I have a laptop, a couple of months old. There is no sound out from the 3.5mm headphone jack. When I plug in the external speaker device, the sound continues from the on board system rather than cutting through the headphones automatically.

Control panel - sound - playback lists the headphones as present, enabled and working.

The 3.5mm headphone jack in also listed under hardware as present.

I know there's not a hardware fault or a bad connection, as the device works correctly in Linux Mint 12, which is the other OS I have running on the second disk partition.

I haven't yet tried to download any external drivers.

I'd appreciate your advice. I'm in the UK and it's time for work now, so I'll look back this evening.

Thanks guys

Hi,

There is a "Quirk" in vista & that is you can only play sound on one device at a time.

Therefore you MUST change the "Default sound device" to hear sound on your headphone.

OK?
