I am brand new to VISTA Ult. 64 and would like to know where I can find help on how to correctly configure Windows Firewall...I heard it was much better than previous Windows Firewalls but was a pain to configure.
Next, is it better to pay for Anti-spyware as PC World suggested in their Oct. 2007 issue? Rankings on VISTA systems were as follows: 1. PC Tools Spyware DR $30 yr. (Superior 95) 2. AVG Anti-Spy $30yr. w/ $20 renewal (Very Good 81) 3. Webroot Spy Sweeper $30yr. (Good 76) 4. MS Windows Defender Free (Good 72) 5. Sptbot S&D Free (Poor 59) ...So, would it be TRUE to say, "The best security in terms of protection and ease of use, along with least number of dif security programs that must be loaded on a machine to obtain satisfactory protection...Is PAID security NOT FREE security? Or, are these ratings "PAID FOR" and can not be trusted? The testing was done by AV-TEST.org...A German research company. |

WOW...I have never seen a more complicated firewall! Is there a way to set the firewall to alert me for every inbound and outbound connection? Or do I have to type in every single possible in & out connection I "might" need in the future? I'm confused?
BTW- I do not have an IT degree, does this mean I will not be able to use the Windows Firewall? |

Viracocha711,
It can be tricky, that's why I went with the Comodo Firewall. It sets itself up automatically. All you have to do is approve or block programs when they try to come in or out of the firewall, than Comodo will remember it so you do not have to mess with that program again. Plus, it does a better job than Windows Firewall IMO. Shawn |
