Re: Whats the Best Antivirus/ Security Suite??

Nod32 is a great product as is Kaspersky, which I am running right now. Norton is a hug slowdown on a computer and McAfee is just YUCK.

Also NEVER buy a security suite!!! 90% of the things they offer already exist in Vista, the only thing you need is the AV and possibly anti-spyware as well.

As someone else mentioned however the BEST AV program is the one between your ears. With some intelligence and care you can go virus free and not have any software to stop it.

I use PC Cillian 2008. I have used it for years with no major slowdowns and cpu spikes.

.. and I don't want to use something like avast or AVG becuase I don't want to use a free anti virus program, I want to pay for a nice top of the line one that will give me the best protection.. or are you saying the mix ur using is better than Kaspersky or anything of that sort..??

!
Personally, I use aVast, and have been dong so for the last few years, and have never had a virus that it has not found. I find it has a very small foot-print on my system.
But that's my personal preference.
While I would not critizie .Joe, I personally think that is over kill (again please, that is just my opinion. Go for it man, but I have better use for my systems memory and cpu usage).

The best advise you have gotten so far though is from Computer-Ed....'the BEST AV program is the one between your ears'.
No matter how much money you shell out, or if you use a free program, absolutely nothing is going to prevent you from being attacked from the latest virus if you happen to be stupid enough to open the wrong attachment, or visit the wrong site. Not my free aVast, or your million dollar ultra protection.

Create a user that has no admin rights (cannot install programs), and use that account for all your regular computer usage.
Use your head while on the internet. That is the best security program.

Re: Whats the Best Antivirus/ Security Suite??

well im using ESET Smart secuirty Suite provided with Nod32 AV aswell and so far things are running just the way i wanted it to..however, if you got some top secret infos in your PC and good system then go for Norton...otherwise..stay away from websites you might suspect or most importantly never download or install attachments with a .exe extension specially when you recieve it over a messenger...usually a file with a .zip or .rar extension generally are much more safer...

Re: Whats the Best Antivirus/ Security Suite??

Dear Xguntherc

I highly recommend ESET's Smart Security for my Antivirus protection and it includes a Personal Firewall, Antispyware and AntiSpam module also.

Firewall, Antivirus, Antispam: ESET Smart Security Has It All

I also use A-Squared Free, Spyware Terminator and Windows Defender for Spyware/Malware.

a-squared Free (formerly a² free) Freeware! A2 is a free of charge Anti-Trojan, Anti-Worm, Anti-Dialer and Anti-Spyware Software - optimal protection

Free spyware removal and spyware protection - Spyware Terminator

I'm pleased to say I have never had a Virus on my single home PC.

Best regards

Neil

Re: Whats the Best Antivirus/ Security Suite??

I have run a combination AVG free edition, Windows Defender and Windows Firewall, combined with the hardware firewall on my router, for about 5 years now. I have NEVER even had a virus warning, let alone been infected by one!

You don't need any security suite or similar products. Everything you need, bar anti-virus, comes with Vista and possibly your router if you use one. If you really want to, you can install Spybot or something similar, which is also free.

If you really want to pay for an anti-virus program, you can always buy the professional version of AVG. Either way, you really shouldn't buy a security suite.

Re: Whats the Best Antivirus/ Security Suite??

Hi Ray

With all respect, the fact that in your opinion Xguntherc doesn't need "any security suite or similar products" because "you've never encountered a virus warning or infection and Vista provides adequate safeguards (bar antivirus) I don't think is very good advice to give a fellow member.

Do you know what sites Xguntherc visits and what he uses his computer for? No I didn't think so.

As you are aware, there are several effective standalone and bundled security products on the market and I can't see why using some of these in addition to what Vista offers isn't a good or necessary step for xguntherc to make.

Then again, that's just my opinion.

Kind regards

Neil

Re: Whats the Best Antivirus/ Security Suite??

Do you know what websites I look at? No, I don't think so. For all you know I look at some very dodgy websites that are full of
spyware!

I never said that he shouldn't buy any security suite software because I've never had a virus. The bottom line is, for 99.9% of people, having AVG in conjuction with Vista's free tools and a hardware router is sufficient protection. Having too much security software running will just slow your computer down and create conflicts.
