Check d not working or system restore

OKay recently i downloaded a virus . And it has disbaled anyway I can remove it. Its sum kind of adware i get pop ups at random times.. all saying i have errors or virus but they ads and they stay on top. Not really annoying as they came once every start or something. But still its there and still is a threat. Anyways I booted computer with vista dvd to repair files. Didnt work. done a virus scan used ad-aware to get ri of what ever nothing has worked. I need to get my scandisk working as well as my system restore and I need this virus/adware possible spyware out of my computer. Anyways here are two screen shots one of sheck disk error and one about the system resore. I wasnt able to opn task manager but have successfully managed to get that working too thanks to a thread found on this forum.

Hi dokBLU,

Welcome to Vista Forums.

You might try using Spybot Search & Destroy to see if it can get rid of the malware for you. Hopefully it will clear up the other errors afterwards.

Thanks for the warm welcome and th prompt reply. About spybot.. will the progrm fix any errors have. Seem to have loads and the "malware" is not to blame to be honest. Infact dont know what is. I will start other threads in future or post some screenshots here, save me from typing up the long errors.

dokBLU,

No, Spybot will only help get rid of the malware. The errors will only be fixed if they were caused by the malware. If you have that many errors, you might try running a Repair install to see if it can help.

Repair Install For Vista

Re: Check d not working or system restore

Right spybot did not work nor did any other similar softwares like Ad-Aware nor did my anti-virus. I still get the pop-ups and The option to upgrade vista has been disbaled only can fresh install. I tried to system restore through the DVD and I get a permission error. Im afraid a fresh install will not work either. Is there a way to undo the changes the malware made. Im sure its messed around with the registry etc. I remember a dos window opening and messing with the computer. Spybot and other similar programs are not finding the source that is leaving all these ads in my compuer.

I cant even use check disk. I have previously posted picures of my task manager so if anyon knows what programs there might have anything to do with the malware.

I would like someone, who has sufficient knowledge, to check this malware out themselves as in I can provide the link I got it from and if possible download yet not activate the malwre but find out what i does and how it can be undone?

Oh I really dont want to fresh install the whole system. For sum stuff there is no way I can back it up. Dont have the installation CDs for it etc.

dokBLU,

You may be able to send the link and details on the virus to your antivirus program's website contact webpage. Most of them have a way to submit a virus for them to analyze. It may worth a try to see if they can come up with a way to clean your computer for you without a complete clean reinstall.

Well it Vista deleted everything when I done disk clean up was really weird, coincidently the reason to not fresh install Vista. So reinstalled the whole OS hopefully no more trouble.

Re: Check d not working or system restore

Thx.. but as we all know vista is the name for problem... update issue.. fresh installed i have updated everything but as soon as i try to install "updates for windows vista" as soon as it restarts and configures the computer automatically restarts.. and then asks for start up repair.. but it never repairs.. I have to stick in DVD and system restore pretty annoying. Any suggestions.. may downloading the updates again solve the problem... I have forgotten where these are located and how I locate the correct files.. please shine some light..

Re: Check d not working or system restore

dokBLU,

You can try installing one or two Windows Updates at a time to see if they will install that way. Sometimes when you try to many at once they will conflict with each other.

What correct files are you trying to locate?
