Hello,
First post so feel free to blast away ![]() Anyway - working on a new install of Vista Ultimate 64 bit and having serious problems getting NIS or Avast to install. I have an XPS 720 that is stable/performing well. My copy of Vista is from MSDN - it is the iso that contains SP1 I am trying to get the security packages installed before I do any other updates Before I found this forum I attempted to install NIS 2008/2008.5 with no success. The 'framework' was never functional even with Tech Support involved. I did this over 2 Vista installs and 2 days. This was the first and only activity on these installs. During my call with Symantec today I had a Tech tell me NIS 2008 was not compatible with Vista 64 (??) and that I should try Norton 360 2.0. Our results there were similar to NIS - they told me to go to MSFT. After my refund I proceeded over to the Avast site. Just a few minutes ago I tried Avast - it installs but fails in the update process. This will eventually cause BSOD. This looks bigger than an AV issue..... Is there an OS service or system that is causing a conflict? Should I do a fresh install before proceeding? Are there issues with the SP1 bundled iso? Any suggestions would be appreciated! Thanks, Dave |

My OCD kicked in - did a fresh install of Vista 64. With Avast the system will BSOD after about a minute.
Avast posts an error in the taskbar - an error has occurred while attempting to update, don't know if that means anything. This does not sound like AV probs. I will try NOD next. If that fails I will try another app or game.... |

The uninstall (control panel) of Avast causes BSOD before login..... This is fun.
Can a Mod review this and move it to an appropriate topic/group, please? It really looks like a Vista 64 problem..... |
