WOW, no NATIVE x64 antivirus..

How disappointing. I have installed and uninstalled at least 5 AV products on my Vista x64 Ultimate. They all claim "support" for my OS, yet each one shows multiple threads / programs under the Task Manager as *32.

BLEH.

I found a nice firewall that's x64 native, but no AV, no antispyware x64. The firewall is Lavasoft PS Firewall 3. Berry nice. Even shows current network activity.

Suggestions?

I read somewhere that CA has a 64 bit suite. Someone PLEASE tell me it's really 64. BTW, if you're going to suggest something, make sure it's x64, I don't want anything *32.

Even DirectoryOpus is pure x64.

Of all the apps that I use daily, QuickCam is half 32 half 64, Skype is 32, iPhone crap is 32, and of course IE / Firefox, since there is no x64 FLASH (total BS).

Re: WOW, no NATIVE x64 antivirus..

Hello,

I am using BitDefender TotalSecurity 2008 and the version I have is intended for x64 systems. So far it is working fine.

CounterSpy is a spyware program that supports x64 as well.

Re: WOW, no NATIVE x64 antivirus..

Do either of them register as x64? Or do you see *32 in Task Manager??

PLS let me know. I am yet to find a true x64 antivirus.

NOD32 has a native x64 offering. I use it myself.

Pure x64.

Real 64-bit native antivirus:

- BitDefender.
- Symantec AV Corporate.

I am not sure about NOD. I've not tried it.

Re: WOW, no NATIVE x64 antivirus..

Ummm...I fail to see the problem here...
Nod32 for 64bit Vista shows as ekrn.exe *32 in the Process list but that does not mean it's any less effective on a 64bit system. Nod 32 is widely considered by security experts as top-o-the heap for AV products and I've worked as an Independant Malware tester for major AV products for over 8 years until 2004.

Still, the fact that the av resident kernel mode is acting as a 32bit process does nothing to inhibit your protection, so basically just go with whatever AV product you wish that offers a 64bit version. In most cases (probably all in fact) you'll find that it's only the AV's GUI that is actually running as a 64bit process and the kernel mode is 32bit.

DAVE - Vista Ultimate 64bit - NZXT Lexa Classic Case - Asus Commando MoBo (P965/ICH8R) - Intel E6750 Core 2 - Zalman 9700 CPU Cooler - 4G's Crucial Ballistix Tracer DDR2 PC26400 RAM - BFG 8800GTS OC2 320MB - 2 x 22" w2207 LCD Monitors - 2 x 250G, 2 x 500G SATA II HDD's, 2 DVD Burners c/w LightScribe (Sony, TSST) - Enermax NoiseTaker II 600W PSU with Custom Chrome cable sleeving - Hauppauge HDTV TV Tuner Card - 5.1 Logitech Z5500 speakers - 15 in 1 Multi-card reader

We will NEVER Forget!

Maybe for a system with 256MB RAM.

Want a real memory hog? McAfee is the worst. I've seen it's process using 150MB at one point. I'm forced to bear with it at work. The company I work for uses it.
