Best AV software for 64-bit vista???

I just got vista 64-bit running (so far so good) and I'm trying to make a choice on which anti-virus software I should install. I was using Avast before I went 64-bit and I was pretty happy with it. I'll pay for an AV program if its worth it. I'm curious about Bit-Defender and NOD32. What program's going to offer me good protection and 64-bit compatabilty, and at the same time not have a big impact on performance? Anyone care to make a suggestion?

Eset Smart Security Suite, or if you only want the Virus, NOD32, has a 64 bit native application, runs silently in the background and works beautifully.

I use Avast Pro 4.8. It has separate scanners for each area.

Re: Best AV software for 64-bit vista???

I'm still using AVG and since ZoneAlarm isn't compatible with 64 had to start using Comodo free Firewall and they work well enough.

Re: Best AV software for 64-bit vista???

NOD32x64, ComodoX64, spybot and the free version of a-squared. You already got Defender.

If you want a free AV you cant do any better then Avast.

Avoid any and all symantec(Norton) products. They are the very definition of sucks.

AVG has also made the list of AVs to avoid. Their v8 bite the big one. So you cant say you werent warned.

Re: Best AV software for 64-bit vista???

Eset Nod32 AV is still the top dog in AV but their firewall is not mature yet so the ESS suite is not recommended. ESS Firewall only pulled 5% in recent tests at Matousec.

Comodo Firewall Pro is the best Free firewall @ 95% and it's the 3rd ranked firewall free or not.

With Eset Nod 32 and Comodo Firewall, your base security suite will be about as good as you can get.

Re: Best AV software for 64-bit vista???

I just set up a little Acer Mini desktop PC yesterday, with Vista 64 on it.
I quickly removed McAfee and installed AVG 8.0 FREE and it installed and ran just fine.
NO Problemo! AVG is what I use on my personal PC and install for all my customers and we all stay 100% Virus FREE.
It never needs to be registered or RE-Registered like so many other programs.

I installed several other programs from Yesteryear, like Corel Wordperfect 8 which installed and ran just fine.

Cheers!
