ISP ID ?
I am asuming you want to Hide ur IP Address ?
You can use a "Proxy" , plenty of them available both Free and Paid.
The Paid ones are faster and work most of the time, then again it depends on you.

The other way is to use a ghost program which is basically the same as a proxy.

I wished sites would block users coming through proxies from entering. Keeps the idiots off sites. Too many try to hide and drop viruses and other crap. Many think they can do it to hide illegal download activity.

Not fair ;)
For example i have paid subscriptions to some US TV sites to download the latest series which are broadcasted here in France about 1 year after :(
To be able to downlad from these sites even you pay, you cannot have an EEC IP address so i use a US proxy and everybody is happy.... Guess who allows me to use such proxy ?

My Computer

If you can't use a EEC IP Address, it must not be legal to download the content in France.

Absolutely legal for people having an address in the US and that is my case ;)
I pay the subscriptions with an US credit card and i can download from anywhere the series under the above condition.... I told you to guess who gave me the proxy addres to make such downloads.
I have not, of course, the right to redistribute the downloads.
So just to say that using a proxy is not always to make bad things.

Well, I'm not one of those idiots...I'm merely trying to AVOID the idiots that might want to tap into my PC and upset things.

I went to a site within a message board the other day, and while reading a msg. bd. there, saw a little flag that read: "Your IP Address is xx-xxx-xx-xxx" and "Your internet use sucks", or some similar rude comment. I would like to avoid this in the future. Does anyone know how to do this? Thanks.

Just keep your router up to date and your firewall/anti-virus up to date.

Eheh, not at all, if you pay for something, you wish to be able to get what you paid for.... If a "provider" accepts your money, he gives you the service you're waiting for no?

SCSIraidGURU, there are alot of reason why people use a fake IP. Not all are down to illegal activities. I have used a fake IP in the past and what you are suggesting is that I do things that are illegal.
Not everyone that uses a ghost program are idiots either. Be careful the way you speak to people.
I have not given you any infraction points for this as it is small and different people have different points of view.
Just because some one may use a program that is capable of causing activities that are not legal does not mean the user is breaking the law.

I guess you don't deal with corporate network security.

Sid, just because its legal to download in the US does not mean its legal in the EU. The EU has really strange laws regarding copyright infringement. If that site does not allow EU IP addresses for downloading, you could be breaking the agreement by using a proxy to get around it.

Well Michael, think of it, if the US TV i'm talking about, banned many countries it is just to avoid any problems with the eventual contracts they have with the foreign TV purchasing their series.
If you have an address in the US or if you are an american citizen you do not break the law whatever country you make the download from.
Just an example for TV rights: You are french leaving in Germany or UK, you may purchase a TV satellite card to teceive the french bouquets in the above countries, you just have to justify an address in France (electricity bill for example) but the TV company sends you the card at any address in any country.
In my example for the proxy (subject of the thread), the proxy address with login/password was given to me upon justification of a resident address and a payment from an american bank. If the TV companies do it, it is because it does not break their rules/contracts, the proxy being used just because my IP addresses change every day, therefore they cannot include me in their IPs authorized list.
Do not be too parano about legal or illegal things, if a provider sells you things, i guess they have the right to do it especially if this provider is a multinational :)

Hi learner

Don't worry about hiding your IP online, it's a waste of time and effort. If you have a router or s'ware firewall and a good AV product, you'll not have any problems. Also keep Windows up to date and use safe surfing practices.

My IP is 24.72.133.44

I have no problem with that, my machine is invisible to outside post scanners so in essence I don't exist. Even a hacker who knows my IP can't find me or find any port that will respond so I'm safe.

Those darn IP scripts some folks use on forums that you saw, are basically harmless but they do scare the newer users, as is seen here. many forums are now banning those scripts because of this problem. It's not a securiy issue but people who don't know that can get the heck scared out of them and then the forum admins get blasted about letting people use them. We've banned them on my forums.
