best antivirus for vista home premium ?

I got norton antivirus with my new laptop. It's 60 day trial period is over and to be very frankl i am not at all happy with tthe antivirus. It makes my computer start at snail's pace. I have done a bit of research on the internet as to which antivirus will be best for vista home premium that could be downloaded from the internet. i am totally confused which AV should i download. As far as my research goes, a lot of people are satisfied with AVG and avast. If any1 can help me out. I was about to download kaspersky internet security( 1 month free trial) but someone over here suggested it slows down the performance. I havent got good reviews about mcaffe and norton, ofcourse my personal experience tells me that norton is utter crap.

Re: best antivirus for vista home premium ?

I'll throw in another vote for AVG Free 8.0. I've paid for the security suites a few times over the years but always ended up frustrated that i spent the money on something that a good free program can do just as well. After all, the greatest risk to your PC security is you, the user. Keeping things updated, avoiding obvious scams and suspicious emails, etc., should be at the top of any how-to list for being secure. You don't need to spend money on anti-virus software.

Just my two-cents.

Also give avast! a look. I prefer it over AVG, but they are pretty much equal in all was that matter.

I don't like Avast because it has too many pop-ups in the corner. AVG Free 8.0 is the best of the freeware imo, but if you want the best money can buy, ESET NOD32 is the one.

I agree with you on Norton. For many years I have been using Counterspy for my
antispyware protection. I have been very satisfied. They now have antivirus
software and antispyware called VIPRE. It combines antivirus, antispy ware, anti root-kit. It protects me against malaware, including viruses, adware, spyware, etc.
I don't think you could go wrong with this Sunbelt Software products.
Its the best I have every used.

You can turn these pop-ups off if you want.

Been using avast! for a year now, never failed on me.
