dll problem...i think?

Hi guys, im new to this forum and to vista. i ran into a problem this morning. here it goes

it all started after i downloaded a file and started to install it. first thing that happened was i got an error message saying g.exe couldn't be opened. so i closed it and thought it was funky for it to happen at the time. i also didn;t think it was a file of importance and we all know how windows is. so i figured a restart n i would be ok.

i restarted and i got a rundll error C:/windows/system32/ " the specified module could not be found" ( opnnnoMd.dll ) i did find the file after some searching in the syswow64 folder. and it had been modified around the same time i had the error of g.exe...so i did some searching bout g.exe and found it could be a virus....

i have norton ran an update and scan...found nothing

so i manually searched for g.exe nothing

ive restarted 3 times everytime it starts i get that dll error....what can i do (besides format)

Hey mate,

Try to do a Spyware S&D scan.
And you could also try to fix your Vist files by typing "sfc /scannow" in CMD.

You have to run it as administrator.

Start -> Accessories -> Command Prompt -> Right Click -> Run as Administrator
Or just type 'CMD' in start menu search, and then Right Click -> Run as Administrator.

Then you will be able to do a scan.

virtumonde.prx

im gonna restart and see if that fixed my problem

if it did....what virus scanner do u guys suggest? or do i need to be using multiple scanners?...hope no one says norton

Check this thread out mate : Here

I personally recommend NOD32, but it's not free.

Fix everything you can, whatever shows up red = spyware or other malicious software.

When everything seems to be gone, you should do a sfc /scannow scan.

If you have to be fast or so, you can always do a System Restore to a point where your PC wasn't infected yet.

You'll both first want to scan your systems thoroughly for malware. Here are some links you may wish to use:

Online Scanners

TrendSecure | HouseCall™ Free Scan

BitDefender Online Scanner - Free Online Virus Scan (Internet Explorer only)

Free Virus Scan - Kaspersky Lab

Insalled AV scanners:

avast! antivirus - high security and protection from malware with anti-spyware and anti-rootkit software built in

Antivirus Software - Eliminate viruses with ESET NOD32 Antivirus and ESET Smart Security

AVG Free - Download antivirus and antispyware software for Windows XP and Vista

Ad-Aware @ Lavasoft - The Original Anti-Spyware Company - Lavasoft

Two really highly rated malware scanners: (disclaimer - I beta test the first app extensively, and have been for the last year).

Malwarebytes.org - This is AntiMalware

Malwarebytes.org
- this is RogueRemover

I'd honeslty start with Antimalware as that is known to remove XP Antivirus 2008.

i did a system restore to yesterday before i downloaded file in question....as understand it...it just deleted all my **** til that point? ...at least thats what i thought. i dont have any errors when i restarted. though i noticed some folders and random files of programs that shouldnt be "there". but the main exe files and dll files seem to be gone from everything and they arent listed in the programs anymore...though they are all still n the start menu

needless to say i deleted the remaining files and folders of the programs as they arent any use to me...

my question...even though i dont seem to have errors. some of the malware programs i had before couldnt fix or find the whole virus so it just kept coming back after every scan. seems to be a common this with that virus (see link above). am i to believe that the reg files and the dll files downloaded that caused the problem are gone but other files are not? am i misunderstanding the restore? or did i do it wrong?

My Computer

System Restore sets all System Files back to the state they were the time of the System Restore, your own files (Documents, ...) are not touched.

Just run another Spybot S&D scan, and then everything should be OK again.
