Vista trouble please assist.

Hey I bought a new lappy recently and was dismayed that it had to come with vista and I was not allowed to dual boot or anything or else void my warente. However that is not what I am here to rant about, ok I got it a month ago, it worked fine for the first 2 weeks then BAM It began freezing, and I mean total system lock up hard restart etc etc . If I leave it for half an hour or so it eventually goes black and displays an error "Login process has failed to create the security options dialog" I've been looking at solutions and calling tech support and all I've gotten is
1) reformat everything and reinstall Vista. - Did not help 1 iota, the problem came back a week later.
2) uninstall Asus live updates - done and no effect
and
3) press Ctrl + Alt + Del and fix - Not going to work its freezing just after startup (or during) and nothing responds other then force restart.

Can anyone help me on this front?

Hi wiskez

Welcome to the forums.

I was wondering after you reinstalled Vista did you install Service Pack 1 and the latest updates after that? What Anti-virus/Anti-Spyware/Adware are you using?

hey, thanks.
Nah I'm not silly, no Norton etc here.
I've even tried disabling firewall to see if it helped. but no. so yeah, none at all on it.

Re: Vista trouble please assist.

Ummm, No security is about as bad as running Norton / McAfee on Vista :P

Start with
Code:
SFC /SCANNOW
and then run some online scans.

Here are some links you may wish to use:

Online Scanners

TrendSecure | HouseCall™ Free Scan

BitDefender Online Scanner - Free Online Virus Scan (Internet Explorer only)

Free Virus Scan - Kaspersky Lab

Insalled AV scanners:

avast! antivirus - high security and protection from malware with anti-spyware and anti-rootkit software built in

Antivirus Software - Eliminate viruses with ESET NOD32 Antivirus and ESET Smart Security

AVG Free - Download antivirus and antispyware software for Windows XP and Vista

Ad-Aware @ Lavasoft - The Original Anti-Spyware Company - Lavasoft

Two really highly rated malware scanners: (disclaimer - I beta test the first app extensively, and have been for the last year).

Re: Vista trouble please assist.

Umm as far as no security goes, I have not been using it on the net that much at all and never to download. Plus I don't go to por... Sites prolific for bugs and trackers. I've already put AVG on and a few others I know to be worthy, as it did not help when I got rid of all the others so I figured why put my pc at risk. not that it is at risk at the moment it craches just after startup :S

Re: Vista trouble please assist.

OK, when you formatted and then it came back in a week, it has to be something you are installing or something that is getting installed, say an update. Can you pinpoint any updates that were installed at the time the error manifested again?

Re: Vista trouble please assist.

I uninstalled the updater because I thought the same thing. After the formatting it only took 2 days to occur again. This time I've not put anything on it at all other then mozilla :S I'm going to give it another burl, but I can't think of any auto update that can make it freeze up like that...

Re: Vista trouble please assist.

Then you might be experiencing hardware errors. Grab CPUID and give it a whirl and see if you see any temperatures spiking - if not, it might be bad RAM, motherboard, CPU, HD, even PSU....

Yeah I thought that too, when I gave Asus a call they said that if I sent (via post... WTF!?) my laptop to a repair center they would stress test it... I will see how it goes though. (not the postage, the PC)
