| 32 Bit | please help - rootkit problem I had a horrible rootkit malwareinfection on my computer. After running many different registry cleaners, and virus/malware/spyware cleaners I seem to have gotten my computer in working order. Cleaned the computer with Avast Boot Scan, CC Cleaner, Ewido, and Malware Bytes, and nothing comes up with infections now. So it SEEMS clean. What the rootkit did was took away some of my privalages and started acting as an admin, where it changed many of my default settings and privaleges. So now everything is in working order except one thing. The rootkit diisabled this... See link belown. I AM the only user, and I AM an administrator but I have NO idea how to fix this. Please help. I'm using Vista Ultimate. I already tried this. No avail. Display Settings - Enable or Disable Changing Here are some screnshots, note the missing settings. http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e2...ddy/sadday.jpg http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e2...daddy/asdf.jpg http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e2...dy/asdffff.jpg I've been searching over the internet for the last few days and cannot find anything that results in fixing this issue. Please help. |

| vista ultimate 64 x 32 | Re: please help - rootkit problem you would be better off if you reinstall vista from scratch to be 100% sure all traces of the virus /malware are removed there are probably other changes that have been made you haven't discovered yet |

| 32 Bit | Re: please help - rootkit problem Not only is that option not currently available to me, I highly doubt all of those programs could be incorrect, after running scans for all files including hidden and such. There has to be a way to reanable those options. |

| Vista Home Premium x64 | Re: please help - rootkit problem I would try Kaspersky and check to make sure its gone, ( the rootkit ) Kaspersky was the only AV that found mine when my XP box was hit,( tried 7 others..) the only way to completely wipe it was to reformat and MBR fix. Reinstall OS. Remember.. alot of Malware and AV wont find the kit if its still there, as its inbedded in the root boot sector, loading before anything else and hiding as soon as it detects start up, prior to anything else loading. Nastiest thing I've ever delt with. I also use Sysinternals rootkit Revealer ( downloadable from MS ) they will also say rootkits are very hard to find 100% but this tool might help you, plus as I said..Kaspersky was the only thing I tried that found mine. The MBR fix is tricky, but doable. Good luck, hope you got it gone, and its just a matter of settings or permissions. And from what I have been told, just a reinstall of the OS wont wipe it..Mine had no choice but to do a MBR fix. Or, new HD and reinstall the OS. |
