Antispyware program

Hi

I have installed the following spyware programs on my Vista computer: Antispyware (antispyware.com) and Spybot Search & Destroy. When I used Spybot program to scan my computer...it listed Antispyware as "spyware"...Why??? Has anyone used any of these spyware program? Any feedback would be appreciated. thank you.

Re: Antispyware program

Hi,

I have used SpyBot in the past and it tells you if you remove it's advertising bot , it will cease to function - could be Antispyware also has one and this is what Spybot
is detecting.

It could also just be a false positive.

I have no experience of Antispyware , but if you want to keep it, suggest you check it with a couple of other free apps , like a-squared free 3.5

a-squared Anti-Malware (a2) Download - Free Downloads of the Trial- and Freeware-Versions

I have tried quite a few security apps and the most complete freebie is Avast, which I use with Windows Defender - it is very effective - I have had no infections, and Defender has had damn all to do

www.avast.com

Hope this helps

Re: Antispyware program

Hi,

SpyBot S&D DOES NOT have an advertising bot. This is probably what you are referring to:
Name: Capture.JPG
Views: 225
Size: 22.1 KB
This refers to other programs and NOT S&D.

I also have no experience of 'Antispyware', but you should be aware that some of this kind of program are rogues, many of which use genuine-sounding names.

I use Windows Defender, SpyBot S&D and Ad-Aware from LavaSoft. I periodically run these and have had no conflicts between them. However, I strongly advise against running more than one of these at a time - you are far better waiting until one program has finished scanning and you have closed it down BEFORE using one of the others. Since Windows Defender is included with Vista and you have already got SpyBot S&D, here is the link to Ad-Aware Ad-Aware @ Lavasoft - The Original Anti-Spyware Company - Lavasoft - I use Ad-Aware Free.

Re: Antispyware program

Hi Dwarf,

Thanks for that, it should have read :

it tells you if you remove a program's advertising bot , it could cease to function - could be Antispyware also has one and this is what Spybot is detecting.

You wouldn't want the app. searching for these things to also have one itself - this is why it's a good idea to scan Antispyware with something else e.g. asquared Free 3.5 - of course it may have been a false positive.

Had a false positive myself recently - Quicksys regdefrag was alerting Avast . The Quicksys site said they were working on it. I have since downloaded the most recent version without a problem - works perfectly.

Spybot is a great app. - don't be alarmed by the fact Spybot has CDilla in it's ignore list by default , see
Cdilla - cdac11ba.exe, C-Dilla, cdac11ba Removal

Re: Antispyware program

I just googled antispyware.com - it gets a red light from McAfee site advisor.

Springrobin, you might want to get this - it adds on to your browser

Re: Antispyware program

Hi Springrobin, when you have done that, scan again with Spybot and a2 and I really recommend Avast free from www.avast.com as your main antivirus/antispyware it has realtime protection.

You can use other another app. e.g. Spybot to scan as well if you like, but you have to do this manually.

I just use avast and windows defender - they work perfectly
