Re: Windows firewall does'nt start on startup

Hi Marc,

Welcome to the forums.

Don't know if you've done this, so will mention. Start/control panel (classic view)/Windows Firewall. Press the turn on/off button on the top left. Make sure 'turned on' is selected.

Another possibility is to use another firewall. Comodo Firewall Pro is a good free one. Link here: Free Software List for Vista

Hope this helps.

Re: Windows firewall does'nt start on startup

hi gary, thanks for the post
yea i do that every time vista starts up but the next time i
start up vista its turned off again!
my laptop isnt reali high spec and would rather not use a 3rd party firewall that may slow down the laptop even more
any other suggestions would be appreciated
thanks

Re: Windows firewall does'nt start on startup

you can also try looking in msconfig and see if there is a check mark by windows firewall just click start/ run/ msconfig goto services tab and reorder the service to make it easier to find.

Re: Windows firewall does'nt start on startup

Go into the start menu, in the search bar type:

msconfig

then go to the "Startup" tab, and there should be an option in there called "Windows Defender", make sure that the tick box by all ones that say Windows Firewall. This should defend your PC a bit more if your firewall will not start, and then you can download another firewall, a few have been mentioned earlier.

Hope that helps,
Josh

update windows and enable all start up items in msconfig, then type services.msc in the Search box and press enter, under services.msc, look for windows firewall and make sure the service is enabled and set to automatic.

Re: Windows firewall does'nt start on startup

Go to Control Panel, Security Center. Does it show that Norton is running? If so, Norton has a removal tool. Might be worth a try.
