| Vista home Premium x32 | account for open use? I have a high school club thats building a new computer for the club. It will be running vista home premium x32. So how would i restrict the access for a user account to a limited amount of things to do? Most of the computers at my school that are for students have many things disabled. Like right clicking on desktop is disabled. The control panel, command prompt, search, windows hard drive, and stuff like that. Its basically all restricted except for programs like word, photoshop, internet explorer. The main windows drive is hidden too, so i'll probably be making a new partition just for students to save there stuff. How would i make an account like that on the new comp we'll be building? |

Hi, Depending what you want to achieve, you could use - permissions for folders, for example - registry settings - parental controls - even a free app. like Winbubble. Here are some links : User Account - Create Parental Controls - Setup and Use Parental Controls - Specific Programs Parental Controls - Web Filter how to restrict folder access in vista - Tech Support Forum All Kinds of Restrictions for Windows 2000, XP, 2003 and Vista - Tweaking with Vishal InformIT: Getting the Most Out of Windows Vista User Accounts > Using Parental Controls to Restrict Computer Usage Unlock for Us: Unlocking WinBubble Part 3 Hope that helps SIW2 |

| Vista home Premium x32 | Re: account for open use? thanks for the list, but for the "all kinds of restrictions" link, do those restrictions work for only 1 account? or would they make it set to all accounts? |

| VISTA HOME PREMIUM X64/ 7 x64 / 7x86 | Re: account for open use? Hi, Hkey_Current_User is for the user account you are in at the time, i.e. you are logged into currently. You could look in the registry under Hkey_Users for each account that is there. SIW2 |
