Thanks Sassofalco, This highlights the importance of regularly updating your Vista. The fix was released in October, kb958644.

PS. The ransom is now increased. The longer you delay, the higher it gets. Be warned. I now want 2 lengths of string, a bus ticket from a Battersea No 9 Tram and 2 Quid.

As with all Windows Updates, KB958644 was downloaded and installed within minutes of its release in the USA, at about 3.30am on the day. I am set for automatic email notifications from MSRC, and I do an Update check daily at start-up.

Ransom demands therefore nullified......please accept on behalf of the Sepoys, a generous portion of 'Humble Pie', circa 1943.
