| Vista Ultimate x64 SP1 | BitDefender Antivirus 2009 and Vista Hi all... I just found this forum while looking for a solution to rename the "Removable Disk"s on Vista (I.e.: set them with a significant name). It looks great so I decided to subscribe and share my little knowledge about Vista . Well, it's actually mainly to ask you to share your knowledge with me .Here is my story: I have installed BitDefender Antivirus 2009 on my Vista Ultimate x64 and experience two big issues. I have reported those issues to the BitDefender's technical support but it's the weekend, so not yet any answer... First, Firefox 3.0.4 crashes when I exit the browser if I keep the BitDefender Antiphishing add-on enabled. Everything goes fine if I disable it (from the Tools/Add-ons pane of Firefox, not from the AntiPhishing's right-click menu). I didn't see a lot of people complaining about this issue yet. Do you know something about that and maybe how to solve it ? Next, the Bitdefender services stop to run when I wake up my PC (I.E.: after a "standby"). And the following message appears in the System event log : "The BitDefender Virus Shield service terminated unexpectedly. It has done this 1 time(s).". This one is really a big issue as I often use the Sleep mode instead of a real shutdown... meaning that I will often be without any protection when I wake up my PC... Did someone else experience the same issue ? If I get answers from BitDefender (I hope I will... as I paid for the licence), I will post them here. O. |

| Vista Business/Home Premium/Ultimate x64/Server 2008 X64 | Re: BitDefender Antivirus 2009 and Vista Hello OgeGOon. Welcome. Last I had heard Bitdefender didnt work very well under x64. You may "not" get a response from them as I belive they are very aware of the problem. They just may not be able to do anything about it. I suggest asking for a refund. Try NOD32 its a far better AV anyway and comodo is the best firewall anywhere and its free. Good luck. |

| Vista Ultimate x64 SP1 | Re: BitDefender Antivirus 2009 and Vista Thanks a lot for your suggestion (both the refund and nod32 ) !Do you (or other members) know this review: AV-Comparatives Nod32 seems indeed clearly from far better than BitDefender. I missed this review and is now regretting ![]() I decided for BitDefender as I read another review where it was nearly as good (fast, reliable, up-to-date) as Kapersky (my first choice at that time) but cheaper for 3 PC (but more OS)... (I reah this review I think: BitDefender Antivirus 2009 | PC Software Antivirus Reviews 2008 / 2009) O. |

| Vista Business/Home Premium/Ultimate x64/Server 2008 X64 | Re: BitDefender Antivirus 2009 and Vista Sorry to see bit defender did so bad in the AV-Comparatives. I really thought it did better then that. If your worried about security in Vista x64. Use this combo. It works great!! NOD32 AV Comodo Firewall A-Squared free Bo-Clean Malwarebytes Antimalware Spybot All that and 3 routers in the system make me pretty secure. It keeps my 6 and 8 year old clean. And they even have their own systems. |

| Vista Ultimate X64 SP2 | Re: BitDefender Antivirus 2009 and Vista NOD32 is excellent. Been using it for years. Consistant Virus Bulletin VB100 Awards across all platforms, and "Advanced" 3 star certification from A-V Comparatives. Can't go wrong there. |

| Vista Ultimate x64 SP1 | Re: BitDefender Antivirus 2009 and Vista Well, more that 4 weeks already and absolutely no answer... And I have still the problem on all my PC after a wake-up. However, I found that I could simply restart manually the "BitDefender Virus Shield" service via the <Control Panel\System and Maintenance\Administrative Tools\Services> pannel. It "solves" more or less the problem. O. |

| Vista Business x64 | Re: BitDefender Antivirus 2009 and Vista Good luck with BitDefender. I had a rough time with their customer service. Their main office is on the other side of the world and their US office is virtually non-existence. I was luck to get a live operator in the US after 50+ calls. |

| Vista Home Premium x64 SP1 | Re: BitDefender Antivirus 2009 and Vista I hate to resurrect an old thread but......I got a new PC last Dec with BitDefender AV 2009 OEM. The trial is about to run out and I was contemplating a purchase of the Bit Defender. I've had no problems with it to date using Vista 64. Anyone still having issues with the AV program or do you think BitDefender has gotten their act together? Thanks. |

| Vista Ultimate x64 SP1 | Re: BitDefender Antivirus 2009 and Vista I confirm that I still have the same (big) issue with Bit Defender on my Vista x64. The main service is stopped when the PC wakes up and don't restart automatically. The same issue occurs on a PC I have built myself and on a brand new laptop Sony Vaio. So I think it's related neither to the hardware nor to some other software (as the laptop has nothing special installed). I mentioned that restarting the service manually was a workaround, but it does not work anymore on my desktop. If I manually restart the service I get an error: bitdefender encountered problems while processind the files below: xxxxx. Do you want to send theses files to BitDefender labs for analysis ? I click Yes and a windows open to report on this error. But when I submit the form, I get a new error message: BitDefender Security Service has stopped working The worst: the file it mentions, I am quite sure (99%) it's created by itself ![]() That being said, when it runs, it runs very fine. I mean: it has never crashed my PCs and it does not slow them (notice they have powerful CPUs). I can only feel that it's there when I open a newly received email with a large attachment... Because "to be 100% compatible with the standby modes S1 & S3" is a requirement for me, I won't recommend BitDefender. O. |
