    Updating Antivirus software

    I was having difficulty with mcafee updating the antivirus database. I uninstalled macafee and tried AVG it has the same problem. I think there is problems with my security settings. I keep getting unable to connect to internet when I try an update. . Any recommendations

    Hello Donreddy, and welcome to Vista Forums.

    Double check in your firewall program to make sure that you have the antivirus EXE file responsible for updating listed in the firewall exceptions.

    Do you have a setting in your firewall program to ask you to allow or block any program that tries to access the interent? If so, you might check these to, to see if you may have accidently blocked them as well.

    The avr.exe file is there and checked off. I turned off the firewall. turned of phishing filters, popup blockers.

    You might try the MCPR Removal Tool to see if McAfee may not have uninstalled cleanly and maybe causing this.

    You might see how the free Avast may work for you instead.
