Initially, I had it turned off as most people have done when they first encounter it I suppose. I know they intentionally made it annoying so that more developers would make safer software. After reading a lot on how it protects you quite well, I started using it. I find that it actually isn't that annoying or nagging as most people think. I hardly even notice it getting in the way any more and I find the extra layer of protection more comforting.

I'm sorry to say I turn it off, I have all my important stuff backed up on a external drive and if some thing bad does happen I will just reinstall if if comes to that. That is not say that I should not have it on because I know that it is allot safer but I am just lazy and I don't like it asking me every time I want to something.

As a Linux user I very quickly accepted giving in a root password everytime I wanted to change something. Answering a yes/no question from UAC is definately no problem for me.

Do you lock the house door on the way out?? :rolleyes:

That's why I use a one digit password in Linux ;)

I just use TweakUAC. A few extra clicks isn't going to kill me. My mouse button maybe, but not me :p

I use it as is, I have no problem with it and think the added security is a good thing especially these days when you have people out there who just want to trash anything Microsoft.
It doesn't take that long to click yes you do want to do what you just started and I'd rather have to do that than have something sneaky going on behind my back.

I leave UAC configured as originally setup by the Vista installation. It has advantages and disadvantages, sure I can't argue with that, but I have got used to providing the necessary credentials when required that I don't really consider it to be the nuisance that some people think it is. In addition, removing or disabling it takes away one of the most important aspects of Vista security in which you have to give programs exclusive permission to access and modify critical system files, which is the aim of many malware programs. In this day and age of data insecurity, it is important for us to ensure that are systems are protected as best as we can. This means using firewalls, anti-virus, UAC and other methods at our disposal. For UAC to be effective, though, we should be running in a standard account for day-to-day tasks. All programs needing administrative privileges can run from there when the necessary rights are granted following the UAC prompt. In actual fact, other than the initial installation of Vista and the original drivers (which I have on a disc and which I keep upto date), I rarely (if ever) use that account directly. All programs needing that level of system access have to be approved by me via the UAC prompt.

As I've always ran as a standard user and used Run-As to elevate those commands needed to perform system tasks, as I was taught to do, I would like to thank M$ for the UAC as it makes my user experience, first with Vista and now Windows 7, a better one. It's a lot simpler than Right Click ... Etc

I use the default settings and I'm glad it's there. Once a system is set up and configured as you like it, there are very few prompts to contend with. Another layer of defense is worth the small annoyance.

It's the first thing I disable after install. I trust myself enough to not be an idiot, not to mention I don't need to be asked if Im sure I want to do something.
