Dude

Ok so this happened on my old XP machine, and just recently on this Vista one.

As far as i can tell, it is harmless, and i have barely noticed it, but it is a little frustrating.
All it is, is some virus or something. All that happens is some guys voice (maybe about 20 year) comes on the speakers saying "dude" in a weird sort of way. It happened quite a bit on my XP machine, but only once on this one. I looked on the internet and found nothing, and I am confused as to what it is.

Its not a huge issue, I can survive with it for now (until i reinstall) but i wanna know wtf is with it.

Re: Dude

LMAO, are you serious? Never heard of that one. Have you ran full scans with an AV and antispyware apps?

Re: Dude

lol. That's priceless.

But i can understand how it would become annoying. Any new process running in taskmanager? Did you open the same file on both machines by any chance?

Check through your sound events in sound and see if any of the events have this "dude.wav" associated with it. (I don't what the filename is)

Either way, it's an 'old virus'. Circa 2004 at least.

I found this. not much help but at least your not alone.

Re: Dude

Yeah i saw that. I know its f***ing hilarious, but annoying. believe me, i though about this one a lot, and i cannot come up with anything. I get nothing from virus scans or anything, and its not harmful.....

I dunno. Funny.

Re: Dude

So, no sound events have been changed? Can you remember installing / opening anything on both machines? Something from an old disc etc

I think that the funny would wear thin pretty quickly

Re: Dude

Well yeah. But as I said, it has only happened once on my Vista machine (aka in the last 2 years) but it would happen ALL THE TIME on my XP machine, to the point where I just wiped and reinstalled. I have no idea what could cause this (though i just thought of something, but it seems really far fetched...)

Obviously I have thought about this, and I am reasonably sure it is not from the same source (See above)

Re: Dude

Yeah, it sounds like it's harmless, maybe something like a joke virus. Maybe you transferred "something from your xp ito vista that was infected with it, some file perhaps? Try running Dr.Web cureit. It says it catches joke programs. I've had some success with it in the past.

Download Dr.Web CureIt! Free anti-virus scanner, cures computers viruses.

Re: Dude

Yeah I will run that.

My Current Machine = my old machine

My new one is simply my old one reformatted with new hardware.
I transferred nothing (I dont do that kind of stuff i just start over fresh and clean)

Re: Dude

Yeah, it's weird that you would get it again, being such an old and rare virus like that. I would think if you don't transfer anything to you new build then maybe something you "run" on your new machine that you did from your old, i.e some sort of data disc, music, game, etc, that has tranferred it over to your new build. Or perhaps some specific website you go that reinfects you without you knowing. Just my guess.
