unable to turn on security center

Hi.
I am having some problems with my computer. I had a trojan, that I now have got rid off, but the thing is that I can't turn on the secutiry center. I get this message:

Can you help me?

Re: unable to turn on security center

What makes you sure you got rid of it?

I would d/l , install, update and scan with MBam , free from here:

Malwarebytes.org

And also SuperAntispyware, free from here

SUPERAntiSpyware.com - Downloads

M$ MSRT is also available - thorough, but it takes a while also free from here :

The Microsoft Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool helps remove specific, prevalent malicious software from computers that are running Windows Vista, Windows Server 2003, Windows Server 2008, Windows XP, or Windows 2000

If you are prompted to download or scan with some other "spyware cleaner tool" - don't.

Hope it helps

Re: unable to turn on security center

SIW2 is right. That pop up warning you are getting at the bottom right of your screen is from some type of malware. Vista's security center doesn't say such a thing as that.

Re: unable to turn on security center

ok, I scanned with the ones you posted, and it actually did find one more trojan. I deleted it.

I have Norman antivirus and Kaspersky

It still doesn't work. I get the same message "The security center service can't be started".

I no longer get that pop-up warning

Re: unable to turn on security center

Go into the control panel then administrative tools and open up services and look for Security center and make sure the start up type is automatic (delayed) and then if its not started start it.

This shows how to enable a service

Services

Norman antivirus - what's that ? Never heard of it - just checked on google - seems ok. Anybody else using it? Norwegian company, apparently.

Hope it helps

Re: unable to turn on security center

You shouldn't have Norton Antivirus and Kapersky AV together.

Re: unable to turn on security center

Thank you - it works

It is called Norman Security Suite.
It works with Kaspersky, should I delete one of them? and why?

Re: unable to turn on security center

You normally only want one major AV installed and actively monitoring. If you have two, they will most likely conflict with one another and can cause all sorts of problems. You can have a major AV and more than one antispyware program installed usually without problems. Some good and safe antispywares are Malwarebytes, Spybot SD, Superantispyware. Usually one major AV and maybe one or two antispyware programs is good enough. You should be careful of using rouge AS programs though.
