Windows storm

Every once in a while I'll be surfing the web and all of a sudden windows start opening like mad and I can't close them fast enough. Sometimes I have to cold boot my computer to get rid of them.

I did a virus check and it came out negative for viruses. What causes this and how can I stop it? I've already had 50 windows opened at once! All the same page.

Re: Windows storm

Hi Barbee,

When this occurs, is it the same page all the time? If so, what is the page and what, exactly, does it say (please use the spelling and punctuation as appears on the page, even if grammatically incorrect)? Alternatively, use a digital camera to capture the screen and post back with the image as an attachment.
I'm leaning towards some form of spyware, but once we have more information we should be able to help you.

And what Antivirus program did you do a scan with? And did you do a full scan or just a fast one?

Like Dwarf says, this is typical of some malware.

Re: Windows storm

Thank you for the quick answers.

It has happened 4 times in the past month. The page that I'm on... a different one each time. Last time it was my own Facebook page, one time it was Amazon, I can't remember what it was the first 2 times. Sometimes if I'm quick I can to a control Alt delete and cancel it with Task Manager before it gets out of hand.

The last time I was on my facebook page and that same page just kept opening until I had like 50 of them opened. All the same.

I use Free Avast because I can't afford the other ones. It works very well... it caught an infected email today. The email said it was from Avast... but I doubt it was.

I'll try running Spybot.

Re: Windows storm

Try running scans with Malwarebytes and Superantispyware too.
