Data execution prevention

I'm new to this, but here is my problem. Everytime i try to open my downloads file or folder, data execution prevention pops up and closes the program. The problem has been sent to microsoft, and is being researched, but this was two months ago. Any ideas?

Re: Data execution prevention

Hi bolitho!

Could you go into some more detail for us please? Can you tell us what version of Vista you are using? Can you tell me what program you are using to download with? Can you tell me the last thing you downloaded?

There are a lot of variables here, and before we can give you an answer that works, we have to know as much as possible.

Thanks!

Re: Data execution prevention

Unfortunately, it's quite possible that your machine has been infected with malware.

DEP prevents a class of attack sometimes employed by (malware) code injection techniques, and the fact that your Explorer.exe process is triggering DEP warnings suggests it has been hijacked.

A thorough malware scan would be a good starting point. Good luck with it.
