Concerns over pifts.exe from Norton

There has been some concern expressed recently about the nature of the file pifts.exe, which is installed by Norton software.

The following at Bleeping computer may give some answers ...
Quote:
There has been a lot of controversy the past few days over a program called pifts.exe that is bundled with Norton products. This program is said to connect to stats.norton.com and send information from your computer to a remote site. What makes it even more strange is that any topics created to discuss this program in the Norton community forums have been erased. Re: Concerns over pifts.exe from Norton

Hello Pooch,

I'm no fan of Norton (symantec), either, and the actual fact that installation information is sent to Norton without the users express permission is worrying.

What I do not want is someone to get scared into removing Norton products due to these fears and end up running without any protection
