| Vista Home Premium 64bit | Vista NoOb Issue Here is my pickle: On Tuesday, I received all of the parts necessary to build a completely, vista-certified rig. This is the first time I've had the pleasure of dealing with Vista, let alone Vista 64-bit. The installation was extremely painless. I love the Aero look, and just Vista all together. I have no problems with almost anything at all, except when it came to my spyware/antivirus programs. Now I have a subscription to PC Tools Spyware Doctor and much of their other products. After installing the program, I was notified that the "malware database .... (whatever it all said)" was not installed and I had to do an update before utilizing the program, which I said "Ok" to. I am then IMMEDIATELY told that Smart Update Failed. This continued to happen after many attempts at uninstalling/re-downloading/re-installing. So, I started to look online, in which I came across this great site. I read the suggestions in other posts and am still having issues. Another issue I had was after installation I could not turn on the program through Security Center, even though Vista recognized I had the program, was an option to click and turn on. I would get the swirling circle for a split second and nothing happened. I also tried telling the Windows Firewall to allow the application access to the internet. Still didn't work. I also prevented both Windows Firewall and Windows Defender from starting up through services.msc, and still would not update or allow me to turn on. So I installed it in safe mode (which I read here) and, wallah!!!, it installed and updated. I went back into normal mode, and now I still can not update the service. And every-so-often I'll get a little notification stating that it can not update (which kicks me out of COD5 which angers me more ).So here is my question: What do I do? haha. Am I only capable of updating it in safe mode? So every week do I need to go through safe mode to install it myself, which will be incredibly tedeous. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. Oh, and great site! |

Thank you. Oh, and great site! Welcome to the Vista Forum. | Vista Home Premium 64bit | Re: Vista NoOb Issue Thanks for the advice. That was actually the first place I went to and did what they had advised, which was much of what I read here as well. Unfortunately, that did not help. I know that my Registry Mechanic and Firewall are not conducive with Vista, but Spyware Doctor is, which is why I'm so confused. I've also emailed PC Tools Support in hopes of some support, but have not received any emails from the past two days. |
