Annoying UAC Prompts

Hi! I was wondering if is there any way to get rid of the UAC Prompts if I am using a non-admin account? And also...is there any way to figure out what the admin account password is if I forgot the admin password? I can't seem to log into it and I didn't create a password reset disk either. Please help A.S.A.P.! Thanks!

~david~

(P.S.)

I'm using Windows Vista SP1 Home Premium
on a Dell Inspiron 530.

Thanks!

Re: Annoying UAC Prompts

  1. Launch MSCONFIG by from the Run menu.
  2. Click on the Tools tab. Scroll down till you find "Disable UAC" . Click on that line.

  1. Press the Launch button.
  2. A CMD window will open. When the command is done, you can close the window.
  3. Close MSCONFIG. You need to reboot the computer for changes to apply.
You can re-enable UAC by selecting the "Enable UAC" line and then clicking on the Launch button.

Re: Annoying UAC Prompts

Also, if you are tired of Windows Security Center telling you that UAC is now turned off, open up Security Center and on left-hand side, click on Change the way Security Center Alerts me. I typically specify the bottom option - disabling notifications and the icon - but it is all dependant on your own preferences or your network administrator's.

For the novice computer user, maybe.

For someone who is somewhat experienced with computers, UAC offers nothing more then annoyance. It was the FIRST thing that was disabled upon my first bootup of my new system... extremely annoying, and does nothing helpful IMHO.

Re: Annoying UAC Prompts

Hi SMOKKINU,

Yes, I agree UAC can be annoying at times, but it can be very helpful to protect you if something got on your computer and tried to run with full administrator rights. If UAC is turned off, then the program or malware would then be able to run with full administrator rights without you ever knowing about it at the time. Where if UAC is turned on, you would have to approve it instead to allow that program or malware to run with full administrator rights.

Re: Annoying UAC Prompts

Hi SMOKKINU,

I tried what you told me to do, but a UAC prompt appears and I can't remember the admin password. So theretofore the MSCONFIG option is totally useless to me without
the admin password. But like I said, I using a non-admin account and can not get into the admin account because of loss of password. So, is there any other option that would work without a UAC prompt appearing on the screen?

Please help A.S.A.P.

Thanks!

Re: Annoying UAC Prompts

Dear Brink or SMOKKINU or anybody else that knows,

O.K. so once I extract the folders, what files am I supposed to burn to the CD?

Like the site only tells two files but says to put some others on their as well, but what are the other files I need to put on the CD as well?

- Please reply:

Re: Annoying UAC Prompts

Hi David,

I've already replied at your other post on this here, but it will be the ISO file that you want to burn.
