Is this dangerous?

When I visit a site I get this warning and this happens whenever I use FF3 but when I use IE8 I don't get the warning, could someone please tell me what this means and whether it is safe to visit the site, my Anti Virus program is Avast.

Re: Is this dangerous?

Looks to me like your pop up blocker is working in IE8 but not the other browser. Do not click this though. Could be trouble or just a crappy pop up sales pitch. Check you pop up blocker in FF3. I had one of these once, it said I had a bunch of trojans and viruses, click here to resolve. Bunch of crap. Do not click it. Check that pop up blocker in FF3

Re: Is this dangerous?

I found this on that JS:Packed AK [Trj]"Trojan"? Smartyhost inserting unauthorised code - Web Hosting I guess what the poster means is if the site visited is hosted by 'Smartyhost" it's possible.

Re: Is this dangerous?

Agreed, leave it alone. That is one of the ways a web site gets you to install the trojan yourself.

Re: Is this dangerous?

Thank you guys, I have replaced my Anti Virus program with AVG and there are no more pop ups. Thanks again to all of you.

Ok, I'm a little confused. I also use avast and that pop up looks to be a standard warning that Avast would issue if a trojan were trying to install itself on your PC from a website.

brummyfan replaced Avast with AVG and now doesn't get the popup..is that a good thing? I would want my AV to warn me.

Re: Is this dangerous?

I would tend to agree with Ratso,

That appears to be Avast's Web Shield's standard response to an attempted drive-by download.

It may of course be a false positive but my advice to anyone who gets this from a site is to avoid that site in future, until they have independent proof that Avast is getting it wrong.

I cannot comment on the effectiveness of AVG's anti Drive-by protection, as I do not use the software so this post is in no way anti AVG

Re: Is this dangerous?

Hi Ratso,

Yes that looks very like the Avast warning - pretty sure it is as he had Avast installed.

It may have been a false positive - or it may be something Avast picked up correctly, but Avg missed..

Many of the experienced regulars /team members here use Avast.

Re: Is this dangerous?

what website are you visiting Brummy, there could be trojan viruses there. I advise to stay away. Maybe It was avast finding the virus through FF but not IE

I found the best way to stop ALL popup warnings is to remove my Anti-virus all together ....
