Someone plz help!!! Security Center and antivirus software

hi guys im new here so if i do anything wrong plz baer with me...

so i ran reliability and performance monitor and it said that security center did not record an antivirus software. however, when i check security center itself, it says everything is on and has the green light beside avast! home edition. I have updated everything and tried reinstalls, but it does not help.

I am running a vista home premium 64 bit on a toshiba L300. TIA

Hello nojo294 & welcome to the forum,
Please supply details of what other security you use besides Avast, eg Defender, Firewall & Malware.
Did your computer come preloaded with another Anti virus program?

Re: Someone plz help!!! Security Center and antivirus software

You said that you got rid of Norton completely. Are you sure???? Please explain the steps you took.
Did you use the Norton Uninstall tool to remove any remaining bits of Norton?
If not , use it & report back.

Download and run the Norton Removal Tool

Re: Someone plz help!!! Security Center and antivirus software

It's possible that Norton remnants are still lurking in your machine somewhere causing conflict. [ this often happens.]
How confident are you at delving deeper into Computer - OS - Program files etc etc? [ to look for anything Norton / Symantec. ]
Another alternative would be to run the link below. I recommend the Slim one at the bottom. -
CCleaner - Builds
Reboot after it has finished.

JMH is right... or should be. Delete any debree from Norton using CCleaner and then check again. If still the same, try and also uninstall avast and then run a trial edition of ESET Smart Security (or NOD32 but I always recommend ESET SS instead). That should turn everything green.

Home Premium X64, not impressed with W7 RC yet...

Re: Someone plz help!!! Security Center and antivirus software

Also just because Security Center gives a red light, that doesn't actually mean anything. If a spyware/antivirus program isn't registered with Security Center it will show red. For instance, if you had a hardware firewall instead of a software firewall, it would report red even though you were protected.

Re: Someone plz help!!! Security Center and antivirus software

thank you for the replys, but security center itself is fine, all the lights are on and says that im protected, but the problem is that reliability and performance monitor says that security center did not record an antivirus, when in fact security center has. and I have already run ccleaner, ran norton removal, ran spybot, malwarebytes, registry mechanic, but these did no good. thank you for your support in advance.
