Data Execution Prevention

I am have an awful time with DEP not allowing me access to several sites and downloads. I get the DEP is shuting down Internet Explorer. I have tried everything. I've been on Window's website looking for answers...nothing helps. I would love to banish DEP from my computer!! Anyone with the same problem??? My computer is only a few months old runs on Vista 64 bit and is shuting down on items I have logged onto forever! I am furious!!!

Re: Data Execution Prevention

Hello Scsiefker, and welcome to Vista Forums.

You might try resetting IE first to see if it may just be a add-on causing this.

Since you are running a 64-bit system, you will most likely have a No execute option in the BIOS settings for the CPU DEP feature if supported. However, just remember DEP is to protect your system from not allowing a program to execute in restricted memory. If some program is tripping DEP, then do you really trust it and want to use it?

Hope this helps,
Shawn

Re: Data Execution Prevention

My IE is running with no add-ons. What else could be causing the DEP to keep stopping my IE?

Re: Data Execution Prevention

Could be something from the websites that are doing this trying to load in the restricted memory tripping DEP.

Re: Data Execution Prevention

I tried resetting IE and the DEP did finally go away. What would cause that to happen in the first place? Is there any way to prevent it from happening again?

Re: Data Execution Prevention

It may have been some add-on or activeX item that you may not have known was on there.

I'm happy to hear that it is gone now.
