Password Recovery/Reset?

I have read the tutorials, and I am having trouble with method three (Offline NT Password Recovery), which is what it need to do being that there are no other accounts on his laptop.

My situation - my friend's brother passed away unexpectedly and I need to retrieve information on his computer (pictures mainly) for the funeral service. I have used OphCrack and Offline NT PR, but I'm not sure if I'm using them correctly.

Please understand that this is a very serious post, and any and all replies will be helpful. Thank you for your time.

I used ophcrack and that seems to boot up well but it will not find the password. also i used nt password recovery and cannot get it to load on this vista system

i'm wondering what actually needs to be done, because just popping in the CD and booting isn't it. otherwise, wondering if there is a cheap program out there that would allow me access to the user account..

if you want specific details i can throw them at you, i'm just not sure what information i need to post in order to get some help..

thanks again

okay, that has worked for the picture recovery, now I have the mother with me and she is wondering if we can work with the password so she doesn't have to waste her son's laptop and she is hoping she is going to be able to use it

i understand i can reinstall vista, but i'd like to get her on to his account so she can have a glimpse into her son's life. he has music ( that he created ) that i can't get into ( i believe he either encrypted them or they are on a PSD partition of some sort )

thanks again for your time and for helping me out

Hello jbeezy,

I am guessing that you are referring to Method 3 in this Tutorial
http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/102005-reset-user-account-password.html

which in turn refers you to
Offline NT Password & Registry Editor

You need to be more specific about what you are unsure of.
Please supply more details.

i appreciate your reply, and yes, I am talking about that specific tutorial.. and yes i was referred to Offline NT Password & Registry Editor... I dont really know what specifics to ask..

thanks again
