Solved Manually creating a new user in Vista

I’ve had problems with my Windows Vista Ultimate computer when attempting to turn on the Guest account. It’s gotten to the point where I cannot create any standard user account. Which leads me to the question: How do you manually create a new user in Vista? (Since it has been failing to create a new user through User Accounts).

Thank you,

RE: Recover Guest Profile

I create a new user through User Accounts in the Control Panel (even if I just turn on the Guest account) and no error is reported (need to check Event Viewer), ie. the new account appears as it thinks it actually created one but I can't log on with the newly created user (even with the ' turned on' Guest) account. I've looked at “HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WindowsNT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList” and I don't see any new accounts created (not even with the .BAK) extension (or ANY extension). When I try to log on with the newly created user, the system seems to try around 5 seconds just showing the Welcome message but finally gives up and displays the message "The User Profile Service service failed the login. User Profile cannot be loaded.". So basically I can't create new users nor turn on the Guest account. I prefer the old solid Unix stand way of creating new users - which never failed. Manually edit the /etc/passwd file and simply create a new user account. It seems to me Vista is over doing this process and needlessly complicating it. I much prefer to have solid basic functions - even 'manual' if necessary. I mean, get those basic needed functions first and then build if you must add functionality on top of them. Which leads me to the question: How can you manually create new users in Vista?

Add the newly created user account to administrators group. And have a try :)

RE: Recover Guest Profile

In Computer Management|Local Users and Groups|Users->New User... proceeds as normal (no errors) and the system thinks it created the new user BUT it does not appear in the registry under “HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WindowsNT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList" When I attempt to log on as the new user, the system tries to log on (showing the "Welcome" messsage for about 5 seconds) and finally returns the message "The User Profile Service service failed the login. User Profile cannot be loaded." What should I do now (I want to avoid a system restoral because 1. I do not want to have 'bad' effects as I like my system how as I have it configured, present problem excluded and 2. I much rather fix my present problem). I'm almost getting desperate with this condition. What are your recommendations?

Thanks,
~sreyes27

If you create a user account the registry entry will not be created. After a successful login, the registry entry will b created.

Have u tried adding the created account in administrator group?

RE: Recover Guest Profile

I cannot believe it! Your last recommendation to create a user in the Admin group succeeded! I actually created the user which I was then able to successfully log on with! Wow! I haven't tried anything else (switch it as a standard user then guest) and haven't seen the Profile list in the registry. Thank you for suggesting the above to me but why I couldn't turn on the Guest account and other standard accounts?

Thanks a bunch!
