Hi every one, it is first time for me here on vista forums, and i really need your help, if you search on google for the tags in the title e.g. Autorun.inf, winjpg.jpg, "NTVDM.EXE, etc... you will find me already asked my issue at yahoo answers.
Few months ago i realized some strange events happened to my pc, where i use windows vista home premium, some events like the follows:
1. when i start my system, the following message appeared and telling me "NTVDM.EXE has stopped working" together with a blank black window called "Task manager".
2. when i tried to run some programs - mostly 16-bit ones - the message "NTVDM.EXE has stopped working" also appears and the program wont start.
3. when i plug in a mass storage device and go to its location at my computer i realize a strange file called "autorun.inf" which disappears after few seconds, not only this, but also when i suddenly remove the device - without safely remove - some pop up msg at the notification bar appeared saying something like that loading of the file (winjpg.jpg) failed to D:\" or something like this....
4. Task manager together with other windows programs like MSCONFIG.EXE not working at all because of the message "NTVDM.EXE has stopped working"
5. at the folder options when i try to show the hidden files, nothing really appear from those, and when i go back to the folder options, it will be marked at "Do not show hidden files", like i have done nothing before....
6. also the autorun screen which enable me to play some media files and others is not showing anymore when i plug in any USB devices, and the same message appears "NTVDM.EXE has stopped working"
i believe that the NTVDM.EXE is some kind of system program used to provide an environment for a 16-bit programs to execute on a 32-bit platform, means that it enables u to run old programs used to work on old operating systems on your modern ones, that what i understand here...
In any way i have tried many times over the internet and google for some free NTVDM.EXE files to recover my corrupted one until i reached to your thread here and other results like some spammy websites provide some free scans which you either get some 589749375 viruses as a result in your system, and they will suck more of your money pockets or you wont get any thing.
i also hesitated whether to recover my system or not, cuz i only have 1 drive location and afraid to lose all of my data on it....
NOW THE REAL PROBLEM IS: i finally recovered my system from all of these crapes using Kaspersky antivirus, the virus causing all of these problems called:
Worm.VBS.Autorun.gt
and now the autorun.inf which was stored in my HD locations and the mass storage devices is now removed forever, together with the winjpg.jpg file located at system32 and the NTVDM.EXE msg not displaying at all, the autorun screen on my USBs is now runnig normaly.....BUT there still 2 little problems:
1.for some system programs like Task manager and MSCONFIG whenever i try to run them the following msg appears:
Can not find script file "c:\windows\system32\winjpg.jpg"
2. also the ability to show the hidden files at the folder options is not recovered yet - seems that it is caused by some kind of other viruses or worms.
Now i need help on:
1. how to solve these 2 problems?
2. how do i recover my corrupted system files next time without losing any data and registered files on my windows vista?
3. whether there are some websites which provide such kind of files FOR FREE?
NOTES:
1. I have used previously some other antivirus programs like Avast, Norton antivirus and McAfee, note that none of those detected the virus i mentioned before except Kaspersky, also after the recovery from this virus, the program didn't detect any farther viruses in my pc - for the showing hidden files problem....
2. Even if i go to system restore, the message >>(Can not find script file "c:\windows\system32\winjpg.jpg") appears and disables me to do such operation together with other essential system operations like Recovery....just tried it few mins ago......I EVEN CAN'T ACCESS THE RECOVERY DISK TO REFORMAT MY HARD DRIVE!!
3. on my search over the internet, i think that my system is hijacked/hacked, since i use firefox, it is rare to visit internet explorer, but a while ago, i realized the title of the window of IExplorer is named .-~= Hacked by SileNt HeLl=~-. besides the name of the page

4. i forgot to mention also that my desktop computer "WinXP" also has the same infection with a difference that i can't access my local HDs with double click, i have to Rclick>Explore....i tried to shield it with a bunch of antiviruses after my lap infected but the problem that these failed to detect such a virus...
further searches over google includes other infections like .-~= Hacked by X4X=~-.
