Conficker smites Oxford Brookes network.

Conficker infected communal PCs used by students at Oxford Brookes University on Thursday, leaving sysadmins with a difficult clean-up job.
A statement (extract below) by the University explains that the attack affected desktops and servers, prompting a decision to temporarily suspend student access to pooled computer rooms while an ongoing clean-up operation sorts out the mess. The outbreak also affected network services.

at my univ, i would see daily reports of conficker. at first it seemed like 100 warning (pcs) at a time, but they dramatically slowed down with network admins on the watch. it was the biggest problem of the summer.

It always comes back to the management. If it's good at the top it usually works.
You just can't trust the hand that is attached to the Uni student who is doing the mouse clicking.
