Re: Security setting won't let me download AVG

Hello pussywillow,
You should only run one Anti Virus Program on your computer. Two or more AV progs interefere with each other & don't result in better security. In fact it creates all sorts of problems for your computer & you.
You will need to remove McAfee from your system first following the directions in the link below. Read the instructions very carefully prior to removing. There is a video included for you to watch to assist you.
Reboot on completion.
You will then have to decide if you wish to keep Avast or AVG as you preferred prog. Let us know which you decide on & we will help you with the next step.

How to uninstall or reinstall supported McAfee consumer products using the McAfee Consumer Products Removal tool (MCPR.exe)

Hi pussy willow,
As you have decided on Avast - It would be advisable to run the McAfee Removal Tool. Remnants of the program could well remain on your computer.
You will also need to look in uninstall progs for anything AVG.
For your overall security - initially Anti Virus Prog, Window Firewall, Defender, UAC on & router firewall. Later, when the unwanted AV's have been removed, you can add some good anti malware progs that we can help you with.

hi rosie

JMH asked if I could give you a hand. I just need a minute to read the thread. be right back.

Ok so you have removed the Macaffee, and you still are having trouble downloading with the other anti virus, correct?

Just in case you come online while either of us are not could you disable the AVG just to try a download? make sure you re-enable it when you are done.
Let us know the results

Ken

Re: Security setting won't let me download AVG

Hi Rosie,
I'm sure Ken meant to say Avast above.
So just to clarify - disable Avast to try to download the McAfee Removal Tool.
Make sure you re-enable it when you are finished.
