Can't Move Files - Tried Everything

I am using Vista 64 bit with SP1. I have files on the drive that were copied from when I had XP installed (installed vista on a second partition). I am trying to move them to a different folder. Can't do it no matter what it says I don't have permission. I am logged in under Administrator, and I have made sure the account is enabled (I added it since it was installed under a different name and got rid of the old one)

No matter what I do nothing will give me permission. I have tried everything - used a registry change to add the 'move to' to the menu, I have gotten the 'run as administrator in the menu now, I have turned UAC off. I have tried changing permissions, I have tried taking off the read only (I don't know if maybe in XP it was already set to read only?), I have tried
the DDISABLE_INTEGRITY_CHECKS thing, and I have tried the tutorial here of taking ownership of the file and adding it to the menu (When I try to run the file through the elevated command prompt it gives me the access denied box again.) The only thing I can get to work is copying the file which is not an option as I have hundreds of gbs to move. I'm only trying to move it to a different place on the same drive. I also tried copying with testdisk because when I copied files before to a different drive it was so fast but for some reason now it barely moves. I can log back into XP to change something if that will help. Someone told me maybe it is because the user on XP was a different name?

I should probably explain why I need to move the files and what they are - these are files that were inside the program files (and yes I am trying to move to the x86 folder) not the program itself - why? It's for the program poser and runtime files can be accessed again even when you reinstall the main program rather than reinstalling each thing as they are simply files that are unzipped into the directory. I have even tried moving them to a completely different directory (c:\runtimes\) rather than in the programs file. I don't want to leave them where they are because it would be work to get the program to find the runtimes because it is heavily nested in files from what I had copied. I am going crazy, please help!

Look in the tutrials here for 'Take Ownership', your problem has to do with the NTFS permissions. Which came about in WinXP.

I had the same problem, external USB WinXp Hdd I wanted to move files from to my Vista computer. Take Ownership fixed it.

Yes I did that but it wouldn't work. I think something may have been messed up. I just got done reinstalling Vista on a new drive (since the other still had XP I thought maybe that could be a problem) and I was able to change the permissions which before it kept giving me the error after I hit ok. However there are a few files that it still told me I couldn't change (and one was a text file someone had given me) but I think the files still copied I have to check the files to be sure.

One other question though - since certain things are still giving me problems, can it make a difference if when the computer was first loaded with windows it was given a username different from Administrator? I was under the impression from what I read that you have to name it that? But I just changed it in the system properties. Is that okay?

Thanks

The first account you create in Vista claims to be administrator, but it isn't.

You have to activate the Hidden administrator account to actually get admin rights. How to do this is in the tutorials.

is that with turning the UAC? Could you point me in the direction to the correct tutorial I think I had followed the right one but just to be sure. And just to clarify so it doesn't matter if the account isn't named Administrator as long as it says it's administrator and not standard account?

Not sure if this will help but I was having similar troubles and found it was that the files weren't indexed properly. Start->Control Panel->Indexing Options. On the first page, it will tell you if the indexing is complete. If not, leave your PC idling until it's done. If you have a lot of files/folders, etc, it may take quite some time; I left mine on overnight and, the next morning, once the indexing had finished, I could move my files as normal.
