I received these warnings this morning, I am sure all of you must have known about these Ransomewares but they look very genuine Windows Security Center warnings.

Hey brummyfan,

You could help all Forum Members, and especially the lesser experienced and newer Members, if you would just elaborate further on how you came by these damned nuisances, and give some advice on how to avoid these types of 'slam-dunk' invasions. For example;

  • How did you manage to get 'slam-dunked'? [Click on a popup, perhaps?? Gaming site??]
  • What did you do to get rid of them?
  • Did you run any subsequent security [anti-virus, anti-spyware, malware etc] scans, and if so, which ones?
  • How difficult was the 'cleaning' process, and what sequence of steps did you take?
It's all very well to scream "Fire!", but unless the locality is given, the fire will continue uncontrolled.

Please provide more detailed information so that the warning has some purpose to it.

Perhaps this warning would be better served posted in the Security Forum.

My apologies sassfalco, OK this is what happened, I received an e-mail from a friend of a friend and when I saw my friend's name I gladly opened to watch a youtube video,in that process I must have clicked some pop ups.
When I started my PC this morning, these warnings appeared and were very difficult to close down those windows, eventually the third option "Don't notify me and Don't protect my PC" worked.
I ran Avira AV and Malwarebytes, found nothing to harm my laptop.:D

Thanks for expanding on the post brummyfan.

It sure makes things a lot clearer and at least alerts Forum Members about the apparent ease with which we can, and do 'allow' these nasties to infect our systems.

Given the variety of other ways that they are disguised to suck in the unwary, for example e-Greeting Cards etc., your experience serves as a timely warning for all to be especially vigilant in the lead-up to the Festive Season.

I'm presuming that your 'friend of a friend', is no more.
