Preventing Deletion of files. Vista 32 bit Home Prem

My daughter just came home from college and her computer had many program files just deleted. Not uninstalled, but literally opened the files and deleted. She didnt do it, as she uses one of them extensively, Adobe CS3. So, how do I prevent someone from deleting files. Can I take ownership of the entire programs files, with a password?
And along with that, how do I keep programs from being installed without her permission? She is an admin user by default, but can you password UAC?
Thanks, Steve

Hello Steve,
Welcome to vista Forums! :)

It doesnt make sense that these files were just "deleted".
Did someone do it to her?

Well anyways, i would suggest that she not password protect or take control of any of those files unless she wants her computing speed to be crippled.

Let us know,
Ben

I think someone deleted them. SHe is not one to just do this. This is her college computer etc. I was just wondering if there is a way to hide prevent someone from actually deleting without a password or something.
She is 6000 miles away, and home for the holidays, and I need to ensure she has a good laptop to go back with, security wise.
Also, the date on it was changed back to 2006. You have to physically do this.

She could have been infected and not know it. There are newer viruses that do this constantly.

Run a malwarebytes scan and check and make sure everything checks out

I ran Malwarebytes and nothing showed up. I was going to eventually do a Hijackthis. Right now it is running fine, but it chaps me that this happens. Granted, you cant be a guardian all the time.
We use Nortons Client, which is good, and malwarebytes etc.

I have no idea why it happened. But just let your daughter know that she should live be hitting tthe windows symbol and the "l" key. That will lock the computer whenever she steps away from it.

Good luck,
Ben
