I recently purchased Registry First Aid hoping it would remedy another problem I have. Will get to that one later. I am not running any AV software, I used to have Kapersky, but let it expire. I am running Vista Home version 6.0 32 bit on a laptop. Does that help?

I have no experience with the program you bought but for me would not have anything to do with something that messes with the registry, Vista and now Windows 7 are perfectly capable of looking after the registry themselves.

My first thoughts would be that maybe you've picked up a virus or some malware especially as you don't have an anti virus program and sudden unexpected behavior indicates that sort of activity.

You might be wise to wait and see what the experts have to say when they see your post but in the meantime perhaps you could run an online scan with one of the top anti virus programs to check if you've picked anything nasty up.

As well try downloading Microsoft Security Essentials, that is free and is a very good anti virus and anti spyware program.
