Security center went missing

Hi,
My security alert keeps on popping up saying that my security alert is turned off. However, i cannot turn it on because it says THE SECURITY CENTER SERVICE CAN'T BE STARTED.

Some sites suggest changes in SECURITY CENTER through services.msc. I have tried to use the suggested solution but the method cannot be used as my SECURITY CENTER in the services list went missing.

Could it be virus attack? How can i solve this problem without having to reformat my laptop? Do i have to make changes in regedit?

Hello safreeza,

Welcome. Did you try and run a MalwareBytes scan? THis will hopefully turn up a trojan i encountered a few months ago.

Let us know,
Ben

Hi Ben, thanks for the reply.

and thanks for the suggestion too. I have tried your MalwareBytes scan. Unfortunately, it doesn't seems to fix the problem. It did fix other small problems here and there on the system.

Any other suggestion for the security center issue? Anyway, if i have other anti-virus installed, do i still need the security center running? I'm running AVG Free 8.5.

Thanks again
