Solved Malware attacking my system

About two years ago I bought a Vista HP laptop. Recently when I went on vacation with my children the snow storm holed us up in the hotel with nothing to do. So they used my laptop alot. After this, my laptop did not work properly. About 1 minute after I turn it on it will freeze completely. After about ten minutes it will unfreeze but proceed to execute all of the clicks I made during the time it was frozen. I am at about an intermediate stage when it comes to computers.

I have already posted the above in the General Discussions forum and they told me to come to you guys. My old firewall did not seem to be doing the job to I downloaded a trial of Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and started the scan it has been scanning for about 5 hrs. and has come up with 1 infected object. I am pretty sure that is the root of my problem but my computer won't unfreeze long enough for me to take care of it.

5 hours? You do have a problem. First thing I would do is attempt a disc clean up. I would stop all nonessential services hoping to prevent the computer from hanging. Then scan with Malwarebytes.

I logged on to my computer in safe mode and did a quick scan. The scan detected 16 viruses and I removed all of them. Even with this out of the way my computer still freezes when I log on normally

Hallo Hyperlinx; I would probably do another full scan with malwarebytes (safe mode if windows wont load)
If it finds any more nasties remove them preferably quarintine if able.
Do you have any other anti virus/malware/spyware? if so give them a run to if you can.
Then run http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/76073-disk-cleanup.html the tutorial link will help if you need it.
Then run http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/66978-system-files-sfc-command.html you can do this in safe mode if you still cant log on.
You may have to run this several times as it can only fix one problem at a time.
Hopefully after this you can log on & run this http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/67612-check-disk-chkdsk.html
If you can get to this stage i would ask that you post back to us so we can take stock of where you are at and look at where to go from here.
If you dont get this far also post back so we can evaluate where your at and look at possible solutions :)

I would just like to add, that when you do get back to normal, do not let this experience go to waste. Make a system image and put it on an external hard drive, then update it once a month. In the event of another similar situation, the remedy would be an easy use of system image.

Turns out there were some bad segments on my hard drive but chkdsk fixed all of that. I have now installed a new anti-virius, defragged my hard drive, and created backup cd's. I will definitely never forget this experience. And I will never let my children use this laptop again. Thanks for all the help guys
