Hello

currently use avast free 4.8 and ie have not the latest version 5.

Now have a full-year free license of vipre antivirus premium and are thinking of switching.
Is it hard to make this change say it is easy to uninstall avast and replace with vipre?

how to go about uninstalling avast completely so that you may not mass remaining residue left by avast antivirus after you uninstall?

have read and I understand there are two choices:

1. uninstall via control panel add / remove programs

2nd or to start your computer in safe mode and use any uninstallutility from avast (maybe you do not need to uninstall using Add / Remove Programs?).

which way is best to choose and is this enough or do I delete a file / folder manually?

using Vista Home Premium

best regards alex

Hello Alexander, I have only seen residue problems with the full paid version.
Avast does a very good job of uninstalling itself from the add/remove programs the only residue will be an empty folder and a couple of obsolete software keys in the registry.
These will in no way conflict with Vipre or any future AV you install.
You could run the removal tool in safe mode afterwards if you wish but i have uninstalled avast dozens of times and there has never been anything left for it to remove.
As i say empty folders & empty registry keys will cause no conflict it is more so when an AV leaves an active process behind.

Hope this answers your question (go for it, you have researched what you are doing & have nothing to worry about.) :D

then I guess a will proceed the unistall of avast the traditional way by using control panel add / remove programs.

the empy folders where are they located can I just delete them?
(program were installed by default settings)

There will be one in Computer/Program Files on 4.8, I would not worry about the ones in the Registry unless you are well versed in registry editing?
They are completely harmless & probably best just left alone as you treading into dangerous teritory if you dont know what you are doing :)

EDIT; i forgot there will also be on in the temp folder, if you locate your run command

and type %temp% then click ok to locate this one
