Is MSE the best "FREE" choice out there?

I use MSE, and I was wondering how secure it is, and if there's anything better. I looked around but didn't find anything that satisfied my question, since most of it was bias to one side or the other.

I hope you don't have both running in real time, that could cause problems ?

You should only have one anti-virus program running in real time but you can have it running with another spyware program.

I use MSE and MalwareBytes on this Windows 7 machine and on Vista I use NOD32 and SuperAntiSpyware, both partitions have SpywareBlaster running.

I suppose your right, but I haven't had any problems yet running both.

I have used most of the free ones at one time or another but the one that uses the least resources and has kept my computer virus free with no exceptions is MSE. It is unobtrusive and you never even know its there until it performs it scheduled scan. That along with malwarebytes work fine for me on 2 of my 3 computers.

Heed what the others are saying, do not use more than 1 antivirus program at a time as "firecat" suggested. You are asking for trouble if you do that.

Yeah, I know, it's never good to run 2 antiviruses or firewalls. If you have resources to waste, then maybe yeah. I use to use Avast! but when I switched to MSE, my computer had a lot more speed and power.

MSE all the way Imo.

Hello Petoskey, here is an unbiased opinion i do not use MSE but i highly recommend it to many people.

If you like it & it performs ok on your machine you can rest assured it will give you sound protection.

Our fellow members @ Seven Forums have put it to the test time & time again, and although NO Av will give you 100% protection MSE seems to stand its ground among the top performers. :)

MSE has never let me down yet, and I've been using it for I forget how long, I think when it first came out. never slowed my computer down, and always worked great. :) A friend told me that it was the least secure AV out there, but here I'm told it's one of the best, and I stand by it :D

I had used a few over the years. Some paid, some not. When MSE arrived, I instantly dropped what I had, hoping it wouldn't be intrusive or slow down the system. It's been great, I recommend it all of the time. I haven't had a virus in years though, so knowing that it is really good or not is kinda hard to tell, but since i've not had any problems at all since beginning to use it, I trust it, and it's a plus that it is free.
