hi guys

ive got windows vista home premium 32, it was all running fine with McAfee internet secuiryt no problems at all, then all of a sudden my McAfee could'nt update and asked me to reinstall the software, so i uninstalled it all and tried to reinstall it, but when i started to it came up with download error 12029. after looking around people said i might have a virus or spyware, downloaded malwherebytes and removed the viruses and spyware, then downloaded AVG free version and did another scan it found more stuff which now it has removed, i then ran another scan and it says the computer is clean. now other problems are occuring

1. still getting the download error from mcafee (ive also used the removal tool and preinstall from there site)

2. window won't update, just keep getting errors

3. windows defender won't turn on

4. some programs update and some won't

interent connection is fine as i can browse the web no problem

please please help

It sounds as if the machine is not clean especially if you can't update programs like Windows Update.

Do you have the Windows Firewall turned on ?

Keep MalwareBytes installed and run that on a regular basis and I'd get rid of AVG, instead download and install Windows Security Essentials, it is free and does a very good job.

You should not be browsing the web until the machine is completely clean and you have all the security set in place.

If you need further help post back and someone should be able to help you.

Install Microsoft Security Essentials, and then run a Full scan.

If you have a system image from before the infection you can restore from, that would be great.

Hello,

Bascially the Error code 12029 is referring to Network issues. Just check with the Proxy setting is enabled by any chance !! If your usings IE then

Tool > Internet Options > Coonection > LAN Settings there make sure Proxy is unchecked.

Try to reset the IE to default settings and see whether that helps !!

Hope this helps,
Captain

OK If that didn't help then i guess reboot in System in Selective Startup Run Selective Startup using System Configuration and see whether it works. If that fails try to reboot the System in Safe Mode with Networking and see whether that works if not it good to do a Repair Install !!

Hope this helps,
Captain
