Security Tools removal

I'm writing for a friend who can no longer use his computer. He recently had the Security Tools virus. It was 'removed' by a computer person for him. This was done in Canada last week. He is now in Mexico and the comp still won't operate properly. We found things to check for and were able to determine that all items mentioned in a 'removal' post were removed from the registry. All worked OK for the rest of the day (yesterday). Reboot this morning and it is doing the same thing, which is after a normal boot the first attempt to open a program immediately shows the small round icon that is twirling indicating that something is trying to start. And that continues on and on. Only way to stop it is to hold the button for five seconds and then it shuts down.

We have missed something somewhere. Any suggestions or solutions will be appreciated. Using Vista.

Hi, I would normally recommend a secondary check for viruses using Antimalwarebytes... and this is no exception assuming he can boot up successfully in Safe Mode with Networking.

He can download it from Malwarebytes Anti-Malware - Reviews and free Malwarebytes Anti-Malware downloads at Download.com and hopefully get it up and running in safe mode with networking.

He should have it run and check for any residual virus files and have it remove them.

If this fixes the problem which it may well do then the next step isn't neccasairy but you may want to do it anyway.

Perform a repair install. This fixes any damaged or missing system files that a virus could have hurt.

A tutorial on how to do this is available at http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/88236-repair-install-vista.html.

I hope this helps, please post back with any results.
