Virus is causing loss of disk space

I have been having an issue with what I believe to be a virus, worm, or spyware that is causing rapid and constant loss of disk space. I downloaded MalwareBytes a day or so back and discovered something like 200 different infected files on my computer. I deleted them all but it made little difference. I have since run every single virus scan that I can think of or find and have had anti-virus for quite some time now. I currently have no disk space left and am afraid that if I free up any more that it will simply be filled up as well.

what antivirus program you used to scan the pc... do you still see infected files when you run malware bytes? or do you see anything usual on the pc.. any fraud program or software appearing?
also check on task manager .. send us a screen shot of your task manager "processes" to see if there isn't any fraud application running..

also run ccleaner and do a "disk cleanup" under system tools .. if you dont know how to do that let us know..

    cheers

    Ashvin:
I have used Trend Micro to scan the pc. I no longer see infected files in malware bytes now that I have deleted them. I have not seen any program running that appears to be a fraud. I am unable to get a screen shot of the processes right now but I will keep trying. As for cccleaner and disk cleanup, I have done both and the hard drive has filled up again.

i had a client with the same issue, it was the system restore, once i turned off the system restore, the drive went back to the correct usage.

I was thinking about putting this down. No, it is not system restore given the malware that I found on the computer and the fact that there are no restore points anywhere on system restore. Good idea though.

Re: Virus is causing loss of disk space

on my clients computer, there were no malware, or restore points, but after looking at every thing else I could think of, I used windirstat, and saw that the drive was being filled up by the system restore, so I disabled system restore (even though Vista reported no restore points), and this fixed the issue....

the original thread for this issue may be something else, but I know it worked for my clients problem...

If it is system restore then go to start>all programs and accessories> system tools and click on disk clean up then click OK on drive C:

Now select 'Files from all users on this computer' then provide UAC confirmation.

Then click the More options tab

then click 'Clean Up' for system restore and shadow copies (The clean up tool may become unresponsive this is normal and let it do it's thing)

after that go to the disk clean up tab and click ok

    And you're done

    Hope this helps,
    Josh

Thanks for both of your suggestions, guys, but I tried them both and neither solved my problem. I am pretty sure that it is not a problem with my computer but rather something that is affecting my computer. A Virus, for example. If anybody has any more suggestions, that would be great!
