Putting this in Security because it seems related. I run ipconfig /all and get valid gateway & DNS from my ISP. Windows defender can download updates and Windows can transmit problem files. However, Outlook, Steam, Norton, IE, Firefox, etc., cannot access the Web. IE says "data execution protection has detected a plugin trying to access memory incorrectly", but I don't think that's it. This all started after I uninstalled Adobe CS3 Production Premium. I tried falling back to a restore point from last week when everything worked, but no dice.

I tried fully uninstalling the Norton security suite from my ISP. Still nothing.
It's clearly not a mechanical issue, because I can open a command prompt and ping Google successfully.

I have another, separate issue as well - trying to install Adobe CS5, and even when logged in as Admin (and I even activated Vista's "hidden" admin account from the command line and tried from there), the Adobe installer balks and says "you must be administrator to install this software". WTH? Time to go to 7??

uninstall all your plug-ins and reinstall them one at a time to see if the problem is with one of them. That is what I would do next.
