email security issues

Hello. Does anyone know avg well. My email scanner says it is active but does not scan email. States the number of emails scanned as zero. And I can't seem to scan specific emails manually.

I've seen online people referring to Outlook express. Is this a necessary component? Do I need more than avg to scan emails?

I currently use gmail and am worried about this issue due to recent problems.

Please help, though it may be too late for current problem, I don't know

I don't think your AVG mail scanner works with gmail... it works with Outlook.
I've read that gmail is powered by Sophos Antivirus.

Oh. THanx. Is that something I need to get? Or is it part of gmail? Because I've never had a warning or any mention of scanning in process, etc.

Or should I get Outlook?

Oh never mind. Just read that gmail does indeed have a mail scanner. Good to know. Suppose I've never had a suspect message. That's cool.
